- The fractious debate continues within the United Methodist Church in the U.S. Many churches
are leaving the denomination over leadership’s acceptance of same-sex marriage and
homosexual clergy members. Disputes over legalities continue. Pray for churches to follow the
commands of God and to be united as “the Church”, the Bride of Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:16 – “Don’t you realize that all of you together are the house of God and
that the Spirit of God lives among you in his house?”
- Fentanyl (a synthetic opioid) overdose deaths have more than tripled in the U.S. from 2016
through 2021. It is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It
continues to take lives daily. Pray for chains of addiction to be broken and for the supply chain
to dry up.
Romans 6:19 – “I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves.
Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-
increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to
holiness.”
Romans 6:22 – “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves
to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”
- Worthy News notes that “a new report by an international alliance of humanitarian
organizations shows that 258 million people in 58 countries faced acute food insecurity last
year.” There is so little food that lives and livelihoods are in immediate danger. This shortage is
a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and other world conflicts, climate change and weather
patterns to include droughts and flooding, and effects from the COVID-19 pandemic. “In a
statement, UN Secretary – General Antonio Guterres said the report was a “stinging indictment
of humanity’s failure” to implement UN goals to end world hunger.” There is a need to examine
agricultural interventions that can anticipate food crises and work to prevent them.
Psalm 82:3-4 – “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the
poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the
wicked.”
- The slaughter of Christians continues in Nigeria, humanitarian relief is needed. Worthy News
reports that the authorities appear unwilling or unable to do anything and that the
“international community does nothing to hold the Nigerian government to account.” Pray for
the persecuted.
Isaiah 3:14a – “The Lord enters into judgement against the elders and leaders of his
people:”
- Mourn with those Serbia where a 13-year-old shot and killed eight fellow students and a
security guard and injured six other pupils and his teacher. Pray for the families of those who
lost loved ones and for healing for the injured.
John 11:33 – “When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her
also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.”
- Continue to pray for peace between Russia and Ukraine as deadly attacks on each other
continues and soldiers and civilians continue to die.
Psalm 34:14 – “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”
Continue to pray for Ukraine.
